Avril Lavigne Biography
Born Avril Lavigne Whibley on September 27, 1984, her birth name can be more familiar as Avril Lavigne. She was born in Belleville, Ontario to a devout Christian family. Her musical talent was first spotted at the age of two when her mother says Avril began singing along with her on church songs. Later they had moved to Nappanee, Ontario, when Avril was five years old. She is a Canadian rock/punk-pop singer and musician. She's sold over 31 million albums worldwide, and in '06 Canadian Business Magazine ranked her the seventh most powerful Canadian in Hollywood. In '07 she won 9th place in the Jabra Music Contest for the Best Band in the World, based on fan votes from across the globe. Her debut album, Let Go, was released in 2002, and went on to sell over 18 million copies. She was certified six times platinum in the United States for the album. Her second and third albums which were Under My Skin and The Best Damn Thing reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. Avril Lavigne has scored five number one songs to date and a total of eleven top ten hits, such as “Complicated”, “Sk8er Boi”, “I'm with You”, “My Happy Ending”, and “Girlfriend”.

In 1998, Avril won a competition to sing with a fellow Canadian singer Shania Twain on her first major concert tour. She had appeared alongside Twain at her concert in Ottawa, appearing on stage to sing “What Made You Say That”. Cliff Fabri had discovered her and was her first professional manager. He had found her while she was singing country covers at a Chapters bookstore in Kingston, Ontario. During a performance with the Lennon Community Theater, she was spotted by a local folk singer Steve Medd, and he invited her to sing on his song “Touch the Sky” for his '99 album Quinte Spirit. At the age of sixteen she was signed by Ken Krongard, who had invited the head of Arista, Antonio Reid, to hear her sing at the New York City studio of producer Peter Zizzo. The Matrix worked with Avril on her album Let Go and commented on her songwriting, saying, “We conceived the ideas on guitar and piano. Avril would come in and sing a few melodies, change a word here ore there.” As a teenager, Avril would hang out at the la Pizzeria restaurant in Napanee, Ontario. In the Under My Skin Bonez Documentary, she has stated that pizza with olive toppings is her favorite food, although she doesn't eat it too much because it is detrimental to her talented voice. Avril has a star tattooed on the inside of her left wrist that matches the style of the one used for her first album artwork. Created at the same time as friend and musical associate Ben Moody's identical tattoo. Avril has been romantically locked to her former guitarist Jesse Colburn, but despite the rumors, she didn't have a relationship with another former guitarist, Evan Taubenfield. However, Taubenfield still considers Avril as his “dearest friend in the whole world” as said on a recent Q&A on his band's official website.
